Thank you very much for let me join the Tohoku trip. As a participant with two of my sons, the experience inspired me to think more about recovery of Tohoku and gave a motivation to work with Tohoku people. In fact, we encountered sad moments whenever we went. I could not go through the sadness without communicative interaction with the participants.
What we have done to heighten our feeling to Tohoku was a volunteer work in Kobe. Have you heard of “The sunflower of Haruka?” Every year, since after the Great Hanshin Earthquake, Kobe volunteers have planted seeds of sunflower with the memory of a girl, Haruka, who lost her life. At this year, Tohoku people was with us and planted them together. It made us feel like we work together to overcome the sadness. As the sunflowers are planted in our neighborhood, it is possible to see the full bloom during this summer and it will bridge a gap between us.
As we will have twentieth memorial in Kobe and will have various kinds of memorial events, I would challenge more volunteer work with praying for the recovery of Tohoku area.
